Thanks for reading...for years I've wanted to get a film recorder system with a 4x5 back going for an experimental project. I landed with a Polaroid CI-3000 recorder with the standard 35 back. After that I looked for a couple years for a 4x5 back for the recorder without any luck. I finally came across a Polaroid Palette 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 back for the recorder and picked it up, thinking I'd be able to modify it for the purpose, knowing that guys used to do this with Polaroid land cameras. It looks trickier than I thought, because as the back is made for a film pack, it doesn't have a fixed plane for the film. I assume the plane was established by the packs pressure on keeping the film fed.
In any case this has been a back burner project for years, but recently I've been more driven to figure it out. While Ive found some resources online, they're always just a few too many degrees different from my exact scenario to be helpful. I am skilled in 3D design, and have tinkered with ideas, but wonder if anyone has experience with a similar undertaking or can point to some resources that could help...or who knows where to find a 4x5 back for the recorder, ha.
The final output will be printed with a Durst 138 S, which is my go to for printing. As I have worked with the 4x5 format for decades, it's my preferred output. I have tossed around the idea of cutting film to the 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 size, but with the "pack" back and no fixed film plane, it wouldn't really make the process any easier. Thanks for any ideas, -Vince
