    Solarised negatives (sabattier effect)

Does anyone know if it is possible to directly solarise negatives? How would this be done, what developers/films are best suited to it? I have attempted it during processing but have been unsuccessful - I have tried with a number of film stocks developing in ID-11. I thought this process would be relatively easy as I have never had any issue doing it to paper in the darkroom but the negatives prove to be very different. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions on how to do it let me know!

Have you seen the thesis by Dr Jolly?
    If you haven't ... it's worth a read..

You might have a look at unblinkingeye.com; I recall seeing articles on solarization there in the past.

I solarize negs all the time, Colour and B&W- I also solarize prints in B&W
jnantz mention Mr Jolly, by far the best paper I have read about this technique and I follow to a T.

If you have any questions I think I can help as I have been doing a ongoing 25 year project in colour and BW that requires solarization at its core.
