Voightlander & Sohn Euryscop Lenses

This is very interesting lens, which is obviously genuine. It could be a very early version, before the series III found its standard engraving. Or, as Tim mentioned, a Petzval 6B in a plain barrel. The Petzval has a focal length of 12" and covers just full plate, whist the 6A series III has afocal length of 15.33" and covers more than 11x12". The front and rear cells on the Eurooskop III are identical.

The serial number points to this being an intermediate engraving design. It was about this time that anon. Euroskops began to be engraved with more detail about them. The only identification had been a arabic or roman numeral at one edge of the barrel.

This is really interesting. I just took my 7a series III apart. lens numbers match. Our lenses are only 2 years apart. Test the focal length and glass diameter. It should make great images.

Ditto. The cells in my series III 3A have the "3A" marking on them. Note that voigtlander was beginng to make many of their components interchangable around this time (exchangable flanges, same sized lens element housings ,etc) so switching parts between different voigtlander lenses was certainly possible

Dear forum,

I'm an antique collector and bought this piece, but couldn't found relevant technical information or value . Conservation of the lenses is pretty good (no scratches, looks clean) since it had the original protection cap. The diameter of the frontal (on the wooden part is a bit longer) lens is 11 cm.

I did some research and found similar lenses , but no one to match exactly the inscription and characteristics.

If possible please point me where I can find more info about product and its value.

I think the "Portrait Objective" and the serial number suggest this is a late Petzval type - called the series I. This is an F3.2 lens. It was replaced by the series Ia (F2.3).

These do find use mounted on very large studio cameras, but a surprising number of the Portrait Petzvals have survived!

Hello fellows.
I've very recently bought this lens (Euryscop 5A, Nº 31810, Voigtlander & Sohn - Wien - Braunschweig) and I am planning to use it on a 8x10 or larger camera I want to build, but don't know the focal length or characteristics, and want to know what's the maximum coverage of this and specifically what's the best use for it.

Any information or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

There are two possibilities!
There is a series III which covers up to 10x12 with focal length 13. @ f.4.5. 3 inch lenses.
And there is a series VI which covers up to11x14 focal length 16” @ f7.7. 2 inch lenses.
Your photos are not the best, so I won’t guess which one it is.
Obviously, the first one is more interesting than the second!

Richard, this is Series VI Euryscop No.5A, made in Jan.3rd, 1887.
3 zoll lens opening diameter or 79mm.
This series is semi wide angle 78 degree euryscop intended for landscape and reproduction.

FL 609mm
image circle 880mm
film size 20x24 or 50cm x 60cm

This lens could be used with 8x10 but it is suitable for much larger ULF.
