Linotype-Hell Chromagraph S3400 Drum Scanner (Heidelberg) - How to use???

    Hey there,

just got me a Linotype-Hell Chromagraph S3400 Drum Scanner. Also a SCSI Adapter for Windows PC and Silverfast Software.
Silverfast can't see the scanner. Also when I am switching the scanner on, I can hear the fan, but there is no reaction on the buttons.
Does anybody has an experience with Chromagraph scanners and how to connect and use them?

    Cheers

    Hi,
I'm not an expert in this scanner, but I had to fiddle a lot with SCSI devices in the past.
So, I hope I'm telling you something useful, I don-t know how much you know abut SCSI devices. Each device has a number, from 0 to 7 (0 to 15 in wide SCSI, but looking at your cables, it seems you have the standard/narrow variation). Each device in your chain has to have a different number. The cards normally use the number 7.
The second important thing is that SCSI is a bus, and you need to have a terminator on each side. some cards and devices have a built in one, but for many you need to put it in. The PC board will probably have some internally, and the scanner may need a physical one. If you look at the scanner side, you shall have 2 SCSI connectors, one for the cable and the other for the terminator.
Which board do you have in the PC? Also, do you see the scanner in the Windows Device Manager?
If you post more pictures of the connectors on both the pc and the scanner, I can help you troubleshoot.

    Cheers,

    Jose

    Hi Jose,

thank you for your answer! I am not sure if I will have access to the scanner next week, but I will keep you posted as soon as I get there.

By the way I found a picture of SCSI connected to the PC-Card and to the terminator.

About the PC-Card: its a Adaptec AHA-2940. I also got the adapter for it, because the PC-Card has a High Density 50-pin Connector and the scanner has 50-pin Centronics connector.

    Cheers,
    Alex

It's running now after I did the "find new hardware" procedure in Windows!
    Thanks to everybody!
