I initially signed up on this list way back in 2005, shortly after I started my LF journey. However, as the old saying goes, “Men plan and God laughs.” Now, after 19 years (and through the wonderful assistance of the moderators Richard Denny and Ralph Barker who fixed some technical issues), I am back and looking to re-engage in hopes of improving my photographic technique, visualization, and hopefully, art.
I grew up in Alabama, but I have lived in Texas for the past 27 years. A basic photography class my senior year of college taught me how to develop film and make prints. I was blessed that when we finally bought our house, I could have my own darkroom. And like many of you, somewhere along the line, the negatives from my 35mm were just not big enough. These days, I shoot multiple formats, but I am most partial to my 4x5 Linhofs; and Tmax, Xtol, and Dektol are my drugs of choice. My choice of subjects is mostly what I find visually compelling, but includes: historic architecture; sacred architecture; landscapes; still life and macro, especially where there are interesting textural details.
Cheers,
Joel
