Great photo. Cairo, IL has a pretty sad history, I hope it has better fortunes in the future.
I don't think that was taken with a circuit camera, it looks like the image has been made with separate images that have been (relatively crudely) stitched together.
I’m originally from just north of Cairo but my family moved away in 1951. My wife’s family is in Omaha and we occasionally travel through Cairo. We were there in late November and I stopped and spent some time making digital images. Next time I think I’ll take a 4x5. Depressing town.
Most homes are abandon as are the businesses. At one time though there were some magnificent homes. One spectacular building is the art deco National Guard armory built in 1931 and is an amazing example of that periods architecture. I’ll post an image of it soon.
The attached image is typical of what you see there.
The cars are at an abandon restraint / club just as you come into Illinois from Missouri. The only serving business there is a strip joint.
Yes, it is found on high floor in a narrow museum hallway
It is under wavey old window glass
shot handheld with first SE iPhone 3 panel Pano
click 3 times on Flicker and it gets far bigger on a big screen
Thanks for your critique
Yesterday I found Flickr can handle 3 panel Pano

Don, I visited Cairo with a lapsed LFPF member often, we met at the very good cafe almost to the Car Art
He was house hunting, did not buy but did move up river
Along the Levee gates and railroad is very photographic with no people as it is flood area
A new River Port is slowly coming
I have lived, Makanda Il, Atto Pass was my favorite with high vista and cheap rent
Now on the edge of Giant City
There is no place like home!

About 20 years ago while we were looking for 'cities of history' we found downtown Cairo...
Too many towns and cities have suffered the same fate.
(All I had at the time was my modified 617 Fotoman converted to 615 format).

Very nice image. A lot of buildings have trees growing through them and a number have collapsed. I’ve seen a lot of areas here in Appalachia go into decay and with coal mining suffering I expect more to follow.
There was a small civil war town south of my home that was in decay but a strong wind came along one day and blew several buildings down.
I’m glad I started documenting these old structures 60 years ago because they’re gone now. What wasn’t torn down has burned down.
I’m posting from my phone so some of the images may be small.
