Repenting Sinar Blasphemer ... stonings at 11
Before I die, I want to produce a single portrait and capture half of the emotion and soul he did in an entire body of work. An American West is in my top 5 photography books and is haunting every time I open it.
Walks on Water. Most definitely a BD. In fact...he had to live in a tower much as did Rapunzel, but for another reason... (oh...and he had a huge basement, but don't get me started! )
That was a treat, thank you for posting the link!
An amazing portfolio. A Master of every camera format. I know of a local former Avedon assistant, he showed me really cool "test 8x10 chromes". The two Assistants crammed into exact model positions was enlightening. BTW they looked TERRIFIED. He told me Avedon lived like a King. He earned it

Big.
If you are in Ft. Worth, the Amon Carter Museum, who commissioned the American West Portraits, is honoring the centennial of Avedon's birth by mounting 13 of his portraits again; they will hang until Oct. 1. The statistics of that commission are amazing: over six years Avedon stopped in 189 towns in 17 states, photographing 752 tired and obliging souls. In total he exposed some 17,000 sheets of film. He destroyed all but 124 portraits for that initial 1985 exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum.
