That's awfully nice of you to say. Behind it is a sad story. Situated in the backside of the daily frenetic rush goings on in the Santa Clara Valley, the rarely visited east part of the coastal mountain ranges of California, off a nearly forgotten twisty dusty two lane road. The family homestead, not at all like the Cuyama Valley, founded sometime in the 1850-60's. What a starkly different world the San Joaguin Valley was than compared to today, even more so just a couple of hundred years earlier. Largest lake west of the Mississippi. Massive wetlands, native canoe possible from the further south north half way to what is now Oakland; millions of Beaver and Muskrat, Otter, Deer, Elk, Antelope...Pacific Flyway visiting upon it millions of waterfowl, some now extinct. California Grizzly Bear. Wild native horses. The rich wildlife riparian zone, dam builders, the Golden Beavers once numbering 200-400 million, down to 100,000, near extinction, possibly saved only by a change in 'hat' fashions. A paradise given up for gold, cotton farming and same such.
