Great shots, Alex. Really like the depth on the bottom one.

Alex.......
Brings back memories of Clyde Butcher in Florida knee deep in the Everglades......nice shot.
very nice ambrotype and cool to see the making of.
I love the big wide tree and that whole forest of trees is very interesting. nice sense of depth as the horizon fades away across the smooth lake.
thanks guys. just coming back on my computer and didnt realise how bad the resolution is on those phone photos
I will post the scans later on whenever I get around to doing that.
The sharpness of these modern lenses keeps amazing me. I have one vintage old petzval that I am hanging onto in the hope I will use it one day but for these landscapes these modern lenses are an absolute winner. The detail in the tree bark is phenomenal.
Alex,
Lovely work! I'm impressed that you managed to keep the sky under control on wet-plate. Have you seen Lisa Elmaleh's wet-plate work of the everglades? This reminds me of her work.
But I do have to say that in looking of the photo of you at work, the only thing I could think of was that this brings a whole new meaning to "wet plate" photography
Cheers!
Bill
Thanks for posting Bill. Never heard of her, so looked her up. Very nice stuff and really interesting use of the medium. A friend of mine is working on landscape work with wp and going for "perfect" pours and technique. Her work shows the beauty possible in imperfections, something I myself have trouble visualizing.
