Thread: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

    Larry, Ben, et al,
A posted list of spare parts available would be great! I mean I have friends who convert old polaroids into view cameras. Second, I would be interested in the lab service as well. I've been developing my 4x5 film in a Yankee box tank with poor results. Weak processing along the edges, a common problem I guess - been trying to locate a stainless real but they are hard to find and a bit expensive too.
    Happy trail,

    Hey Steve,

That's great, we would be happy to try to help.

I'm not familiar with stainless steel reels for 4x5, but I'm familiar with stainless steel hangers. I also know about the MOD54 plastic insert for the Patterson tanks. Of course, tray processing is another option.

I guess darkroom processing is not available, is that why you're using a daylight tank?

Use trays in the bathroom and you will begin to get your developing correct. Gentle, very gentle. Also baggies work. Do a search for baggie technique. Basically, put the neg in a baggy with chems and gently slosh. In the closet.

I searched this site and the internet on baggy film processing with various key words. nothing found. Can you elaborate or give a source please. thank you.

    search ZipLock baggy film developing

All you do is put the film in a ziplock with chems. That's it. Pour them in and out of the 'container'.

I use the ziplock bag method to develop double-sided xray film. It works quite well... I think I wrote about my method in the xray film and comparison thread here...

Just read the update today. Looks like they'll be running the helical end of this year, or just into the new year. Looks very promising. Can't wait!

Beautiful work, Andrew. I don't see a description of the baggy method in your link. What if your baggy springs a leak in the middle of developing? ;-)

All I can think of is this line from The Big Lebowski, "The dude abides.".

    Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

Thank you, Larry! Here is what I posted a few years back about the ziplock method:

Today I developed a sheet of x-ray film in a zip lock bag but this time I inflated the bag with air after I poured in 2 litres of developer. It was then placed in an 11x14, flat-bottomed tray. Why did I inflate the bag? This way the top side of the bag won't touch the film and makes agitation a lot easier. Because I blew in air from my mouth, the temperature of developer after development rose from 20C to 21C. I now know that I am full of hot air...
A bit of water in the same tray set to 20C should control the temperature.
    Film is scratch free.

Luckily I haven't had any leaky bags... but if I do, the tray helps (you don't need flat-bottomed trays for this method). Putting tempered water in the tray helps regulate the temperature of the developer, but I have found it unnecessary as my darkroom is usually around 21C.
