I know just enough to be dangerous !
Hi Luc,
Yes, increased contrast, also some burning/dodging, removed piece of wood in right bottom corner (your observation), applied slight warm tint and changed image proportions very slightly to make image more square. Lastly, output sharpened overall, (there were already a few specific intermediate sharpenings). I think that's it.
Best,
Dennis
I know just enough to be dangerous !
First time using D-23.
I used a mix of Thornton formula but using Borax instead for Solution B.
I learned one thing. The undiluted formula is too strong for Jobo rotary development.
1) I had one of the slot with the two negatives showing drag marks where I thing the developer was poured into the Jobo.
2) Did not really keep the highlights on another four negatives
So next time I am going for 1:1 dilution, one shot use.

Cannot decide between the two exposures.

The two images below are my attempts at rock abstracts a la Brett Weston or our own Merg Ross. I'd be curious to hear any suggestions concerning cropping or processing. Suggestions for aggressive cropping could probably be executed by reshooting when I am back there sometime.
I'm also interested in whether folks strongly prefer one over the other.
Thanks in advance.
I like the top one a bit more, pretty cool rocks! If you are planning a reshoot, perhaps lose a little of the top in order to include the whole vein in the lower left corner and crank up the contrast in printing if you are after that Weston look it looks like a great place to find appealing comps
The bottom one has wonderful tones I like, but I like the comp of the top one more for some reason.
