Sorry, I deleted the image just after I posted it because I wasn't sure I like it.

In this case I cropped it in-camera: I usually mask-off the ground glass. I rarely crop after-the-fact. Much of the "content" in this type of photo - for better or worse - is dependent on composition, or rather is composition.

Literal masking makes sense to me, because I have trouble visualizing crops when looking at the whole ground glass. I used to wonder why people shot with panoramic backs rather than just crop down a 4x5 image. My assumption has always been that convenience and economy were the reasons, but now I think it is also psychological.

Nice and a decent scan to boot! Perfect timing. I just sat down with my espresso to see what was new here. Is that machine in your family?

Got another box of 8x10 RetroTonal-100. The setup is still standing so here goes with a 240mm brass Goerz on Gandofi.

Thanks Jim. This "machine" was gifted to me by a friend and it stays here, doing nothing for some years, so I'd say it is in my family.
I never printed these negs ( I have 8x10 somewhere ) due to bad framing, but yesterday I decided to try it with my new HP G4050 scaner ( got it for 80 Euros from eBay ),
and wow ! Lot of thing to learn about scanning ! Looking for good tutorials for VueScan !
    Best wishes, Igor.

It's never a good thing following one of Christopher's excellent images, but I'm doing it anyway. This is on 4x5 Arista Edu Ultra in Rodinal 1+99 (cropped on right side). Slight application of curves and toning in Photoshop.
