I have to question the lens selections for this number of cameras. Ebay, KEH and everyone else will be sold out of the selected lenses long before you reach your goal. I admire your effort. I have well over 50 lenses and none are any good for this camera. My three 90's are all the big double 'horn' affairs that just won't work. I don't want to buy another 90.

I am sure there are many more American Press camera lenses out there, you could have chosen, rather than what you have chosen. I only saw you initial post today, as I am Jonny come lately. I wonder who decided there was 750 of this type lens ready to use...with camera buyers.

Great idea, I want you to succeed, but I don't have a lens.

    Good luck!

    Now let the hammering begin...

Arg! I had jaw surgery this morning and missed the early bird special! I just bought the 65 but I may wait to see if the project gets funded before finding a lens...

Randy, I brought up those same concerns, but I'm guessing it's not nearly as big a deal as you or I thought. I would bet most shooters with an f/8 "double horn" as you put it will simply use that instead (which brings me to ask, did you in fact know that you can use those on this camera?). The problem is the MF folks deciding to try sheet film. They will all need lenses.

Considering the Optar 90mm I linked is still for sale I'm guessing the 100+ backers aren't exactly scrambling for 90mm press lenses. We'll see how it pans out, but I definitely do agree that the pinhole option should be expanded upon, especially since it could easily beat the Harman model at it's own game for way cheaper.

Regardless, getting 1/5 of the necessary monetary support in one day, as it's shaping up to do, is certainly a positive start!

Coran, I know my lenses would work, but how awkward is that. I would worry about damage. My Horseman HD is pretty small, has GG and the lens, while not a 90, but 150, a small 120, reversed fits folded.

As I sit here fondling a Polaroid MP3 135 Tominon, in shutter with helicold mount, I only need a box. Better still how about a Calumet C1 8X10 back fitted easily to a wood box and a Nikon SW 120. I digress.

We have 2600 actives here at LFF. Do we have 750 buyers?

I hear of most MF shooters simply skipping 4X5 and going for 8X10. Myself I am preferring 2x3 and 5x7. Hush, don't talk about X-Ray film, the next big thing...

Thalmann says that lens was in production for 40 years:

"90mm f6.8 Schneider Angulon: When considering compact wide angles for 4x5 field use, the venerable 90mm Angulon is probably the first that comes to mind. At about 130g with a 40.5mm filter size, it definitely qualifies as compact and lightweight. It was in production for nearly 40 years (early 1930s - about 1970). The design is derived from the classic Goerz Dagor, consisting of six elements in two groups. "

There must be lots of them sitting in drawers. How many do you think they made in 40 years?

Yes, of course. Who is opening the drawers?

Really, medium format shooters are going straight to 8x10? Wow. Can people afford that cost per exposure, and deal with the weight? I think I read on here about some guy who gave up on 8x10 because he was a nervous wreck with each shot.

I'm a medium format shooter who just switched to 4x5 and do not see making the leap to 8x10. I'm working on convincing digital shooters that 4x5 is a viable format. Some guy told me that he would be all over large format digital if it existed, ha ha. I pointed him at the world's largest 8x10" sensor: http://gizmodo.com/5834699/this-is-t...r-in-the-world available for a couple of hundred thousand dollars. Even a high-end Hasselblad outfit will set you back $30-50k.

Van-based wet plate photography is the future. $500 per exposure.

Sorry, I was talking art students. I just sold 3 8X10's to art students.

Perhaps your personal experience differs but I highly doubt that 8x10s are selling in droves to the art student crowd, stepping up from MF. I mean, consider that the #1 "art" camera is the Holga.

Regardless - might I suggest buying one of these, fashioning a small extension tube, and plopping your 135mm lens and focus helical on it? They mentioned designing it as a base for other projects as well.

LOL, I would tend to agree. I can't believe all art students have trust funds and can afford to shoot 8x10. I know someone at Tisch in New York. He is shooting 4x5. I sent him the link to the Wanderlust so perhaps he will spread the word.

This is the ticket! The person at my lab, who looked to be a photography student, mentioned that she has a 125mm but no 90mm. By the way, she told me she was shooting a Cambo 4x5.
