    Re: Wanderlust 4x5 P&S

    Hi guys,

Amazon finally verified us, so I'm going to submit the Kickstarter right now. I'm not sure how long they take to approve projects these days, but I just wanted to give you the heads up that from this moment on, it could go live at any time.

I'll send another update when the project is approved by the Kickstarter staff so you guys can rush in and claim your early bird spots

    Ben

Good news! Ben--supposing this all goes according to plan, when would you estimate shipping the cameras? Do you set the deadline for the Kickstarter campaign once you're approved? Have you selected a manufacturer for the mold, and for the product? Thanks.

We have two manufacturers who gave us very competitive bids. If we do make our goal, we'll contact them both and try to figure out which is the best fit. There are two or three minor details (logotype, metal inserts) that we need to work out with them, but we don't anticipate any showstoppers. We've been very careful to design the camera so that it can be easily translated to an injection mold—which includes making wall thicknesses more uniform, drafting angles, rounding corners, and reducing mold axes to cut down on expensive "sliders."

We set the delivery date to December 2013 to be on the safe side. The lead time on these molds is around three months, so December is a conservative guess. But with manufacturing, we've learned to expect the worst and hope for the best.

Thanks for the helpful information. It definitely pays to be conservative on delivery dates. I've supported a few KS projects and it gets ugly when the projects go way over due dates. As long as you keep up good and frequent communications, backers are usually cool.

Decembe 2013 a bit late for the project I have on mind (September) but great that it's a go.....

Once the KS starts they will be able to automatically send you updates when you pre-order.
Thanks for your effort on this guys. I am updated KS every once in a while looking for the launch. I'm pre-ordering this as soon as it's live. Any sneak-peek on the "levels" of support you included?

You can follow Wanderlust at @wanderlustcam or my personal account at @bensyverson... I think we'll post smaller updates on Twitter and here on LFF, and then roll them into larger updates for Kickstarter so we're not spamming people too much.

It turns out that once they approve the project, we get to actually push the button to launch, which is great. Basically once it's approved, I'll post an update with the exact time that we'll take it live. There are 25 super early bird slots, and 25 early bird slots, both of which are nice discounts!
