Yes, it is lighter because it is simpler. The back, as you mentioned, the amount of movements and the lack of forward front tilts help make it lighter. Also, no repair parts are av.ilable/

I'm looking at a Linhof camera with 2 lenses at a local camera store in Regina SK. They tell me it is a Tech IV, but I'm trying to make sure. Is there any way to tell the difference between a Tech IV and a Tech III?

Yes there is, but your camera's serial number does not belong to any Linhof camera from the III, IV or V era. Where are you seeing that number?

A III takes a different dimension lens board then all later Technikas and the III front standard can not tilt forward like all later Technika cameras can. Lastly the IV was not finished in black material.
