Linhof Serial Numbers

Hi all, I just registered and this is my first post on these forums. Seems like a great place, and I look forward to posting here a lot more in the future!

I just took delivery of my first large format camera, and am excited to start this journey. The camera is a used Linhof Technikardan S 45, and the serial number on the accessory shoe is C251338.

Could someone please advise as to the year of manufacture? Many thanks.

That is not a Linhof catalog number.

Old listings had alphabetical catalog letters. Newer ones had a 5 digit numerical number like 003317 which is the Expert Twin Shank tripod.

B was used through 93. C would be later then 93.

Thanks, Bob. Does that mean the the 6 digit serial numbers were reset to zero (or some other lower number) after Linhof started using C? Because I have seen the 6 digit serial number after C is smaller than the 6 digit number after B (as mentioned above).

Can tell. When they went to B the first 6 were a continuation of the previous 7 digit # with the B being first and the last digit left off. So I presume that the later number series are the same.
But these numbers do not tell how many total cameras were made.
They tell year, month day series and number.
