Epson 4990 Help

Hi

I got the Epson 4990 Scanner but it is not scanning, I have a Mac and I have updated the software and it is detecting. But when it detects the light in the scanner blinks green but after that it keeps blinking red. And when I try to scan it it gets in a loop scans to 100% then starts from 0% again. It gets stuck...any help.

Try this:
Restart your computer, then go to System Preferences > Print & Scan; highlight the scanner, then right-click to re-set the system.
The scanner will disappear from the list, then re-appear once the computer detects it (keep it on and connected to the computer).
Now restart the computer, and see if the scanner behaves properly.

Also might try downloading a trial version of Vuescan (www.hamrick.com) and seeing if you can scan using that. If so then you know it's likely an Epson driver issue or OS conflict. If still an issue then it could be hardware related.

I followed the instructions but the scanner didn't reappear so I added it manually and restarted the computer... The red light still keeps on blinking and the scanner is still in the same mode...

I am using vuescan's trial version...

Tried vuescan and silver fast both returning scanner error, it was scanning on Windows machine when we bought it...

Are both halves of the scanner unlocked?
Can you try another USB/Firewire cable?

You might want to take a look at the VueScan Release Notes and see if any of the items there apply to you.

Are we safe in assuming that you connected the pigtail from the top scanner lid to the base? Also, as Ari asked...did you unlock the top half? There is a little latch on the lower left corner of the lid when it is open that must pushed over to the left, and on the bottom half, there is a lock on the left side, toward the rear that you use a coin to turn it about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn to the right.

Yes I have unlocked both the transportation locks, but I am not sure what you mean by connecting the pigtail?
