It reminds me of the Hopi Women photos by Curtis!

As for the paper negatives, I am just starting to experiment with them since I have an abundance of expired paper and no proper darkroom for enlarging as yet. I was aware of the high contrast aspect, and to combat that I did three things. One, I used a lens prone to lots of flare (fast, old Petzval); two, I used pretty flat, soft lighting (two tungsten lights with umbrellas); and three, I did use dilute developer. Specifically I used 4ml of Ilford Multigrade liquid developer concentrate mixed with 60ml of water (1:15) and processed the sheet of paper in a rotary drum for two minutes. I rated it at ISO 6.

Here is an unaltered straight scan of the other image I made during the same sitting (I didn't post it above because I don't think it's as strong). This will show you how low the contrast was straight out of the camera. It surprised me. I actually had to boost the contrast of these scans in Photoshop.

I like both, but I prefer the first one, it's both mysterious (you can't see as much) and cute, and bizarre which I also like.

    Re: December portraits

There are some really fabulous portraits this month.

My offering is from Atlantic City, Wyoming. This is the Inn Keeper at the Miners Delight where they have over 75 single malts to try.

Please don't try them all in one sitting.

Thanks. I was thinking that a little bit, too, but it wasn't on purpose. Only when I saw the finished image did the connection occur to me.

I take 'mysterious' and 'bizarre' as high praise, but to me it's just my wife in a blanket. How bizarre can that be?

I truly appreciate all the feedback. It's nice to know that such a personal image resonates beyond my own four walls. That's not something I could ever come to know on my own.

If you knew me better I would say something silly like "depends on what's under the blanket" or some such thing, obviously if your wife is self conscious that might not be interpreted correctly based on my own bizarre view of the world (hence this dialog to go with it).

Mystery and Bizarre are also compliments in my view

Be well and keep shooting. Can't wait till I can get a 4x5 so I can post!

Jonathan, I also have to second those admiring and enjoying your latest portraits of your wife. They are funny, intriguing, mysterious, and way more... they are great (the first one a little more IME - that's "eyes" )...

Thank you, Jiri. You're very kind. I'll pass your comments on to my wife. They will help keep her happy and willing to pose for me!

Here are a couple more from a shoot yesterday. I love that Cooke lens.
