    Digital stitch back for 4x5

Periodically someone proposes doing this with their VC. So I thought those people might find this interesting.

... certainly interesting - but somehow its still more problematic than truly conducive, imo

It would be doable with say a P45 back and what 4 exposures to be stitched? That could be done really quickly and end up with a massive high quality file. But still it is prohibitively expensive for me because of the expense of the back.

Re: Digital stitch back for 4x5

I"m doing this often with a Flexadaptor on my Sinar 4x5 and a Leaf Aptus 10 back (56MP). This back has a 36x56mm sensor and that's also the usable area on 110/220 film afaik. With this particular MFDB each shot is roughly 20" x 31" ...

Pretty easy to stitch 3 shots together for a 30" x 50" print. LCC profiling needs to be done in most cases. I aim for 30% overlap between shots.

For larger prints, I'm shooting nodal plate on a tripod style although I'm not afraid to do it freehand where parallax is not an issue. I routinely put 30" tall by 120" to 180" long landscape panoramas. My longest print is 50 ft long. At that point there are other challenges ...

You can also use front shift and rise to put stitching to good use with a lens with large coverage ;-) ... no need to use a stitching device for a low cost one-time approach.
