    massive camera 3ft x 3ft...

    Hey

I have access to a massive camera, built for my university in the 40's I think. it has a plate size of around 3ft x 3ft.

I am currently helping out restoring it, it does not need much and is almost working. My question is what options do I have for a medium to expose on? is it just black and white paper or would I be able to get a massive bit of colour film?

    Any ideas???

Homemade Dryplates or Wetplates (for formulas take a look at http://www.thelightfarm.com/Map/DryP...PlatePart1.htm), Paper Color and B/W

    Good Luck

Big paper negatives might be interesting at this size.

14 x 36" XRay film would be perfect.

I'm with Jason -- X-Ray film would be my first choice of readily available options. You'll have to improvise a film holder, and finding a lens that will cover an image circle of 39" might be a challenge, and you'll need a lot of light to secure useful dof. Good luck!

    How cool!

Try multilpe paths for this camera.

Paper negatives will get this camera working soonest probably.

Glass plates ( wet or dry) are a natural of course.

for film: How about a reducing back to some some less-than-mamoth ultra format, like 20x24 or 11x14 . . .something you can get film and holders for.
The bits and parts are out there.

The important thing is to get this camera taking pictures in some medium .

There are only three types of mounting flanges; too big, too small and wrong thread!

The bigger question at the moment is, what are its film/plate/paper holders like? Does it have any?
