270 mm f:5.5 Schneider Tele-Arton (coated)

Anyone have experience with this lens? Particularly how sharp and contrasty does it seem? Is there a focus shift when stopping down? (I know that it weighs a ton, and is mounted in that dreadful Compur 2.) Any information is appreciated.

Nice portrait lens on 4x5. Mine is a Linhof select from about 1960. It has good contrast but is not as sharp as proper (non-tele) lenses I've had in that focal length, I use a 10 3/4" Dagor in preference. I'm a picky German, and this difference won't matter 90% of the time. What's "dreadful" about a Compur 2? I don't recall any focus shift, but years of using Dagors have taught me not to get out the loupe until I've stopped down to working aperture.

I have two from around 1965 and I like them much! I got them with my Hans Fröhlich Portrait Kamera and find them not heavy at all. Mine have also no focus shift, they are not so contrasty full open, but usefully sharp at f8. Mine is a Linhof selected one and at f16-22 as sharp as most lenses of this time!

Arent bad they are.. Linhof select as well here.

Mine is fairly sharp even wide open.
I think it was nearly first 4x5 portrait i shot with it.

(ugly scan, and cheap film , but hey).

And after many other lenses - it doesnt weight a ton actually ... 360 SK Tele- heavier, so is shorter 240mm Heliar. And i think 90/4.5 is heavier too..
