"Designed for SLEEVED negatives"
Thats a cover your backside statement and somewhat ridiculous IMOP, if you have dirt in the sleeve a small piece will scratch "true", so if one has old negatives that were kept in a shoe box without sleeves originally, "maybe". Otherwise I'll stick with sleeveless negatives in the Printfile sleeve.

I've sent another query off to Print File with your quoted instructions, John. We'll see how they reply.

Well, that was quick. I guess we don't need sleeves.

This simply means that the pocket is large enough to accommodate a sleeved negative. The 810-1HB gives you the option to use a sleeve or not. Some pages do not have the pocket size for the extra size a sleeve adds so we note which styles can be used with a sleeve. You normally require an extra 1/4" greater pocket size for a sleeved negative. It is definitely not required but an available option for this style negative page.
I hope I answered your question adequately...please contact me again for further questions or more complete explanations.
