Roll film holders.

I have the MPPMKV11 with a spring back(no graflock bars). Can I use a Graflex ty pe 6x9 holder under the groundglass(with a felt pad to protect it) ?, is there e nough gape to take this type of holder ?, or do I need the slip-in calumet type ? Also could I use a Calumet groundglass, and would the format markings work ?. Cheers, Lee.

You really need the Calumet type holder. The roll film backs are pretty large for a spring back and you have no way to lock it in. You should be able to use an aftermarket ground glass. I recommend stepping up to a Beattie or Maxwell to brighten your viewing.

I said it once before in a mocking way, but now I will be derious: you seem to have so many problems using this camera, shouldn't you reconsider your decision not to go with the Arca-Swiss? Even a basic Calumet Cadet camera is less problematic.

Thanks for everyones help, this forum has been great with many helpful tips. I have just got some more 4x5 velvia landscapes back which are gorgeous, I have got front to back sharpness galore!!!. As for my MPPMKV11 I find it very easy to use, logical,compact,fairly light and fun,I am glad that I did'nt opt for a monorail. I am now completely hooked with LF!!, Cheers, Lee.

Just to clarify ... the MPP mk7 does have the international back with Graflok bars - the Mk 6 does not. I use a Wista 6x9 type N with my MPP mk 7 so I unclip the screen when using it because of its thickness. It works very well. The main drawback is the tendency for the photographer to forget the detached screen and walk off with it lying around. A slide-in type would be fine as well and gets over the memory problems.

Hi again, Colin is correct the MPP Mk VII does have a removable back, I use a horseman 6x12cm back and an old Linhof 6x9cm back. Using these also allows me to use a 58mm XL lens with the limited drop front (single as against double on the Mk VIII). Cheers

My MPP is MKV11, however the previous owner has removed the graflock bars and altered the back which is now permanent, it still has the holes to attach the bars but the spring assembly has been engineered in a way that to use graflocks I would have to strip down another camera. Having said this I do not find this a problem and would prefer the slip-in type backs. My memory is terrible and I have no doubt that I would probably lose the screen at some stage if it was detachable. Hope this answers any questions!!. Lee.
