Linhof Technika swing lock

I just got my Linhof Technika for a few days. I found out that once swing the front standard, you cannot lock it tight. However, the standard is held in position by friction. The front standard is also kept in place by friction on the bed, and can be moved when pushed without squeezing the two buttons. Is this normal?

Yes. And no to the second question. Your camera needs service. While the service center used to be near you in north NJ they have sinced moved to NC.
