    Is this separation?

Could someone tell me whether the white ring at which the red arrow is pointing is separation and if not, what it is if anything abnormal?

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be
a mile away and you'll have their shoes.

It is just too symmetrical to be separation. Modern glues (if that is the case here) produce Newton's rings before edge symptoms.

Thanks for the replies. I know what balsam is but how would it overflow - because someone has tried to repair it in the past?

It can happen during the assembly of the lens. Simply small surplus of the glue.
