Compendium Lens Hood and Cable Release

I just purchased a compendium lens shade for my Horseman L45 camera. I am having difficulty figuring out how you could connect a cable release to the shutter with the lens shade lowered since the lens shade (the way I have it positioned) rests against the lens board.

Any tips on how to trip the shutter with the lens shade lowered into place?
Do I have the lens shade positioned too close to the lens board?

    Thank you!

I think I will set up the lens shade so it sits about a half inch away from the lens board on top and use a spacer at the bottom to keep it about a half inch away from the lens board. That way I can attach a cable release with the lens shade lowered. The lens shade will sit about a half inch from the lens board but will still shade the lens.

I'm not familiar with your camera/hood, but with mine I set it up similar to what you describe -- so the back of the hood is forward of the shutter. The lens gets plenty of shading even if the sun is coming in from the side.
