Tom, if I were taking apprentices I would be teaching against that particular style - that was the 1980's, before I learned better, and I was shamelessly cascading grapes and diffusing. The composition is lop-sided to leave room for a headline and text on the left-hand page. Noted on the margin of the sheet there is a 'C' for concentric circle diffuser - which answers Ken. Lighting is a plain old umbrella but with a 5000ws pop and a very large blue gelled reflector behind the camera which is doing all the delicate parts (oh, and a mini battery slave for the background).
    Thanks Eric.

cjbroadbent, I really like the soft light on your pics. What kind of lens do you use?

Cristopher, I suppose people grow out of things or change their style for whatever reason. I was just commenting that you seem like you've been around for a while and I could benefit from the guidance of an Old Master.

Tom, I appreciate your interest. I've been doing 'natural', single-source light for nearly 50 years. Anything works as long as there's something to bounce it off. The secret ingredient is the fill - which gives mood, and is colder than the source and imperceptible (seriously large, 3-5 stops under) .
Dupont, On 5x7, a 180mm Sironar - but closed to diffraction.
    Thanks again, Christopher

This is 5x7 non-art but in praise of my old Technika and 180 Symmar. This time with a black silk stocking at f32.

    Hi,

This is my first successful shot with 5x7.

It is attached to this posting, I hope it works.

This resembles the Azo print more than the first attempt.

Looks good to me. One of my goals in life is to make a nice photo with seagrass like this http://www.kamprint.com/breath.html

I haven't shot this kind of subject in a while. I'm not sure if I like it.
