My ignorance of LF is showing , I would expect you pre focus and then swing the back and front?
Another LF-newbie checking in. If you're using also the back to get the most extreme front swing effect but without distorsion, I would my self first swing the back and then level the camera to the scene so that the back is aligned with the straight lines in the scene so that it wouldn't distort the perspective and then pre-focus and apply the front. That's how I see it.
Miskanarhi,
If you swing the the back and then re-orient the camera so that the back is once again square with the elements in the scene, you're back to where you started (all you've done is an indirect shift).
Using the back to change the plane of sharp focus will always involve a change in image shape.
