Here is a normal shot (not using swing) of the same subject as the one I posted above for comparison.

Rob this may be a silly question, but how do you focus this type of image and where do you focus?

Some of the distortion could probably be cleared up in software but this is just a quick scan.

My ignorance of LF is showing , I would expect you pre focus and then swing the back and front?

I don't pretend to know what I am talking about as I have only successfully exposed a handful of sheets of lf film. But what I did was focus and then apply swing and then check and refine focus.

Another LF-newbie checking in. If you're using also the back to get the most extreme front swing effect but without distorsion, I would my self first swing the back and then level the camera to the scene so that the back is aligned with the straight lines in the scene so that it wouldn't distort the perspective and then pre-focus and apply the front. That's how I see it.

    Miskanarhi,

If you swing the the back and then re-orient the camera so that the back is once again square with the elements in the scene, you're back to where you started (all you've done is an indirect shift).

Using the back to change the plane of sharp focus will always involve a change in image shape.

from one LF newbie to another- I see problem focusing after you put a large swing on - would that not be quite difficult under the dark cloth?

Unless you're using a long lens, is it really that difficult to rotate the front standard while under the cloth?
