This is how I scan all of my film now, too, both B&W and color. I have yet to find an accurate film profile for any emulsion I shoot, so I now scan everything as neutrally as possible in 'positive transparency' mode (as Isaac indicated) and do all the heavy lifting in Photoshop. Negative film usually looks a bit washed out when initially inverted, but some curves adjustments and sharpening are enough to get it where I want it. The difference in tonal quality is dramatic compared to the old days when I was letting SilverFast do its 'auto' thing.

Took this one just a few hours ago at dusk. Despite the thirty second exposure, there is a cat visible in the second window from the left that sat still the entire time just staring out at me.

Pacemaker Speed Graphic, 6.5" B&L Cinephor projection Petzval, Kodak Aerographic Duplicating Film (2421).

I tried to make a conscious attempt to shoot a theme for several nights this month:

Yes, nothing beats a Petzval. Even for non-portraits.

Thank you, Ari. I've been in a photo slump for over a month, but it turns out all I had to do was walk 50 meters and snap this. It's amazing how open or blind to photo opportunities we can become depending on our mind-set.

I'm coming to that conclusion. I think this little Cinephor is starting to edge out my Aero Ektar as my favorite lens for 4x5.

Or the weather; I haven't been able to be outside longer than five minutes as of last week (it's way below zero these days, quite windy too).
The thought of hanging out with a large metal object for 30 minutes outdoors chills me.
    Brrrrr!
