    Timer for Durst CLS 500

So, I finally found a decent enlarger locally! It's in great condition, from a single owner (and nice guy to boot). Now I'd like to find a simple timer that is compatible with the CLS 500 head, as my very old Zone VI timer doesn't seem to work correctly with the unit. Can something like a gralab 505/545 do the trick?

    Cheers and thanks!

I am using a Gralab 545 timer on a CLS 450 head which is the model the CLS 500 replaced. So I would guess it would work.

Why doesn't the Zone VI timer work?

The Zone VI doesn't power the enlarger's power supply when you turn it on. I assume it's supposed to keep the power supply on, so that when you start the timer the bulb doesn't slowly come up to full power. I could be wrong, however, since before this I've only had experience with cold light, 'instant on' heads.

    Cheers

On the CLS 450 the only way to turn the enlager light on and off is to turn the power supply on and off. Sounds like your Zone VI timer might be working correctly.

My CLS500 has a slight delay—about one-half second—when the timer first applies power. Some timers can be set to compensate for this, and leave the enlarger on an equal amount of time at the end of the exposure. The RH Designs Stop Clock specifically mentions this feature.
