If you search this forum, you can find a lot of postings pro and con about both of these scanners.

I addition to Ken's comment, save yourself some money and get the V700 instead of the V750.

As usual, I agree with Joanna.

While the forum's own search feature is pretty good, you can also use Google to search just this forum (or any other site for that matter). The Google search engine allows you specify additional arguments.

If you copy and paste any of these text strings in a Google search, you'll get back more than enough to keep you busy.

Are you outside the US? I thought the Microtech was discontinued in the US, leaving only the Epson.

...or save even more money and buy an Epson 4990.

Look for a COMPLETE (everything that came in the box), low mileage, 4990. The Epson Clearance store, USA, has refurbished ones occasionally. The last two that sold at this forum went for $200 & $250, a few months back.

I tend to agree, as I use a V700 at work, and own a 4990. I personally cannot tell the difference between scans on these two systems, given all other parameters are the same (i.e., scanning 4x5 at 2400 dpi). I got my 4990 for $150 at CompUSA, when they were shutting stores down. It was a "demo" model. Essentially it sat on a shelf out of the box for about 3 months. Other than that it was brand new.

I've seen gently used ones going for $150-200. You should get one of these, try it out, and if it's not to your liking, you can probably sell it and recoup your investment.

I have a v750 and I'll tell you that I'm very happy with it. But, the the Epson film holder is pretty poor. Almost not adjustable at all and adjustments are needed. I opted for a holder from Doug (http://betterscanning.com/) and spent a few hours dialing it in. Very happy.

Hope this is not out of line but I have a 4990 for sale now in the For Sale section of this forum.
