Thread: post alternative techniques

I have always read that albumen has a tendency to yellow and crack with age although I know there are plenty of old albumen prints around. I bought a gallon of Golden and was going to have a go. I will try albumen as a well.

That Golden stuff is nice but it ain't cheap! Colours art store just down the road from me carries an in house brand. Comes in gloss or matte. Much cheaper.
The albumen over gelatine has a very nice look.

For albumen over gelatin, just buy liquid egg whites from your local grocery store.
Got a 6 pack from Costco.

    I can also make omelets.

Bought Gamblin PVA, watercolor, brush. Waiting for PF delivery.

The PVA bottle label 'says' "The advantage of PVA glue is its stability. Conservation scientists recommend painters size with PVA instead of Rabbit skin glue".

Save the rabbits! I will spare you my rabbit, high country horror story.

Can't say I've ever had an egg white omelette before! Let me know how the Gamblin PVA works out for you... as a size, not omelette!

Carbon Transfer over Kallitype. Still tweaking, slowly getting there. Will make glop pigment load adjustment and hopefully the blacks and mid-tones will be good. Reproduced with my telephone camera. Sorry for poor quality. Won't fit my scanner.

Wow that relief is amazing. I know seeing it on the internet does not do justice to what it looks like in person. Very nice Andrew!

I just saw the Timothy O'Sullivan prints at the Colorado Museum of Art. They looked good for their age, but were indeed yellowed, and a tiny bit cracked. They were also dimly lit to prevent further damage. Pretty old though. Albumen is not truly archival it seems.
