Try this: Head southwest on 285 and, a bit past Conifer, turn onto South Foxton Road (may be a sign for the Reynolds Open Space Park). It will take you down to the river, turn right when you get there. There could be a problem with parking in some places, due to private property. But as you drive upriver you will see the Cathedral Spires. At the base of them is a large parking area used by climbers - on Google it says "Cathedral Spires Park Trailhead." You could park there and then just wander along the road. Be careful of cars going faster than they should be! There are some other smaller pullouts here and there. I haven't been there in five years or so, so I forget any more details.
As with anywhere, after Labor Day will be less busy, not to mention cooler!
