Edgar isn't shy with his opinions but he is pretty modest about his marketing and self-promotion, so I'll do it for him. He just got his second customized Refrema machine tuned up and running E6, to compliment his C-41 machine. He also has most of a third one for parts, has the ex-factory tech close at hand, and he knows enough to keep everything running for another 20 years or so.

Here is why Refremas are the best:

Apologies for my prostituting and whoring, but Edgar Praus is my friend and he owns the best remaining custom photo lab. Personal service, a smaller, high-craft approach, all top-notch equipment (Durst and Refrema). He doesn't take shortcuts or try to squeak anything by you. He is not the cheapest but he is still far less expensive than the labs in NYC. This is where Kodak goes to test their stuff - but Fuji likes him too.
Most of his business is from mail order but he is conveniently located in Rochester, New York, USA. Even RIT students can find the place and park safely without getting mugged.
OK end of plug. But it is easy to write copy when it's the truth.
What Frank said!
Frank is 100% correct. Edgar has a first class operation - is a LF shooter - and always seems time to answer my questions.
E-six lab in Atlanta--they are great, quick, and cheap. They've processed hundreds of 4x5 sheets for me (c-41), it's 2.75 a sheet, and never a problem.
Frank Petronio said it all.

On Location Studios in Poughkeepsie, NY is great. They do dip-and-dunk E6 and C41, 35mm through 8x10, don't charge extra for push/pull, are experimentation-friendly (i.e. they're happy to cross process or try other weird stuff, usually at no extra cost... only thing I've found they won't do is bleach bypass), and do mail-in. Was a happy customer for years before moving to San Francisco.
Since I'm in NJ, I tend to use Taylor Photo in Princeton http://www.taylorphoto.com/ Prices are good and they do great work. To dev my b/w 4x5 negs, its like $2 each and color is the same price.
