A librarian will direct you to a book, or books where you can look up the answer to the question yourself.
Unless the question is so simple that he/she knows it right away. Very often they answer the question very broadly and then direct to the book for further reading.
What I was trying to say is that answering a student's question with "I wont tell you, this is cheating, go do your own research" is pretty unhelpful.
(I am not so secretly hoping that when I will have questions I will not be told to go away : )

What is being asked here is an attempt to acquire an answer, not knowledge. In my opinion, answering the question is just as unhelpful as you claim not answering it is.

and a fauler gelehrter means in german, someone who studyed but who is to lasy to use his knowledge.
