It's known as the Dummkopf Principle.

Unless the question is so simple that he/she knows it right away. Very often they answer the question very broadly and then direct to the book for further reading.

What I was trying to say is that answering a student's question with "I wont tell you, this is cheating, go do your own research" is pretty unhelpful.

(I am not so secretly hoping that when I will have questions I will not be told to go away : )

One definition of Learning is To acquire, or attempt to acquire knowledge.

What is being asked here is an attempt to acquire an answer, not knowledge. In my opinion, answering the question is just as unhelpful as you claim not answering it is.

Hm well first i need to say that there is no dummkopf principle
Dummkopf means in german Stupid head
and a fauler gelehrter means in german, someone who studyed but who is to lasy to use his knowledge.
