I was messing with a hair light and messed up the film images, but this DSLR one the hairlight did not fire, so... still gotta check the film as it was a comparison of X-Ray to FP4, but I know the hairlight is bad news. Too powerful and a bad choice for this guy.

I like it without the hair light, though I can see where you are coming from. A bath, haircut and shave would help. (just kidding )

But (IMVHO) a hairlight is always bad news. For good news point it at the background .
