Haven't had much luck with the Verito yet. All my negatives have been thin even in mid-day sun. Doing pretty good with focus though. Even wide open I had about 6 out of 7 in focus hand held with the Speed Graphic. Instead of calibrating the rangefinder to the lens (not even sure it could at 210mm) I just match the focus between the rangefinder and groundglass and lock the focusing bed and use my feet.
I believe it is Zach.... it just doesn't have a steering wheel and running boards. From the sound of your technique with the Verito, I think you're well on your way to having it licked.

Thanks Jim! you were right, I really like this lens. My wife wants me to blow this one up for her.

Garrett! here's one from that petzval you sold me.

    Julian Cemetary, "Stairway to Heaven"

    4x5, Darlot f3.6 petzval, neopan 100, 2 stops ND, 1/60
In 1920 they stopped using this cemetary. It was to hard for the horses in the winter.
    It's long and winding.

The Veito's spherical aberration spreads the depth of field slightly, making wide-aperture focus just a little more forgiving. Notice that the tip of the nose and the eyes are all in acceptably-sharp focus? Try this with an f/4 Petzval, and you can have one razor-sharp and the other waaay out-of-focus.

All that aside, the Verito is a fine, fine lens!
Ah, thanks for the info. I've tried it with the Aero Ektar and it works ok. Still better than calibrating the rangefinder I find. Thanks again!

Yes I do have to watch out for that. Normally not interested, the minute I crouch down with the Speed Graphic the dogs want to come over.

Thank you! Not much luck with more recent Verito photos, or with Portra. The colors, either from my developing or the lens, are...not so pleasing. Portra 400 converted to b&w - Verito 210mm @f/4:

Much appreciated! I am still learning the lens but getting more comfortable with it. Posted another in the Portrait thread.

    Zaitz,
Certainly, this appears to me to be one of those images that surpasses the technical aspects of the craft and leaves the viewer with a proud, beautiful and compelling story about deep loyalty and friendship. This is truly a memorable display of art and rarely do I comment on other people's visions, although this is truly something special.
