P-Cat in Weaker Dilutions for Warm Water

    Hi all,

I was wondering how P-Cat HD behaves in dilutions weaker than my usual 1:100 as my tap water in the summer is 80 deg, and I'm getting uneven development in trays, which hasn't happened in the past. Can you use it at 1:200, with 80 degree water? I've been cooling the water down w ice, but it warms up eventually. Thanks,

    GB

I have used it at 1;1;150 instead of 1;1;100 when my water was 75deg. I'm at work so I don't have my times with me, but I think it is about the same times as 1;1;100 at 68deg.

Try it and see what happens. I don't see why not. I use extremely dilute solutions of pyrocat-hd for stand and semi-stand development. I lived on the island of Kyushu, Japan for many years, and the temperature of the water right out of the tap in summer was 30 degrees C. I used lots of ice and a little window AC helped keep the room close to 20 C. I developed in tubes, so it was easy to monitor the temperature of the bath. If it started to warm up, I just added ice water. I much preferred winters!!

Just develop for less time. I use 24C for all my processing as that's how warm the water here gets in the summer so I've determined my times for that temp. I use it summer and winter.

80F is not that far from 24C (It's 26.7C actually).

I gradually warm my wash water to around 80 F, so that the same volume of water performs more washing/less time.
