    Head Strikes with R2400 Printer

I have an R2400 printer, and for the most part it's worked well. However, I recently tried some Ilford Silk Fiber paper, and I really like it. The problem, though, is that I get head strikes near the end of the sheet. It happens just when the last edge of the paper comes out from the guide mechanism just before the head travel area. The sheets are pretty flat. In fact the emulsion side is slightly convex. I've tried both the regular loading tray and the single sheet mechanism, and the results were the same. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really like the look of this paper, and I've used similar ones, such as Crane's Silver Rag, without any problems.

Have you tried gently rolling the paper towards the emulsion to change the curl before printing?

Gary, I'll try, but wouldn't that raise the paper in the wrong direction?

I have an R2400 and haven't experienced this issue (yet). I am interested in how you resolve it.

    Thanks,

One guy on dpreview said he solved it by raising the output tray height 1/2 inch so by putting a box on it, therefore the last part of the paper does not get forced upwards.

Re: Head Strikes with R2400 Printer

    Hi Jon,

I tried putting a 1.25" box on the output tray. This seems to help.

I didn't mention it before, but I have an Ink Republic CIS. Since the CIS works fine with other papers, I didn't think that it was the problem. But moving the lines to the print head did effect the result. I have them moved (which involved a modification of Ink Republic's "bridge"), and this (together with the box trick) has eliminated 99% of the issue. It's good enough that I can finally print off usable profiling pages.
