    Long Focal Length on 8x10

    Hi,

Does anyone know how much the 800mm Xenar and 600mm Fujinon C lens for an 8x10 camera go for these days and where I may be able to find them? I'm considering purchasing one for my Wehman Camera which can support up to 30 inches of bellows.

I would also consider any other good lenses on the 600-800mm range.

    Regards,
    Shailendra

You might have a look at the lens comparison chart on the LF Home Page. The weight might be one of the factors to consider. I think Badger Graphic lists a price for both the Tele-Xenar and the Fujinon C. There is a thread in the archives comparing the Tele-Xenar and Fujinon C. Jeff at Badger Graphic is straight forward and easy to deal with.

Among the "older" lenses, you might also consider the Red Dot and/or APO Artars. Shorter focal lengths (e.g. 16 1/2" and 19") are fairly common, but 24" and 30" pop up occasionally on the used market. I believe the 800 and 1200 Nikkor tele lenses will cover 8x10, as well, but with the limitations associated with the tele design.

I'm assuming that you have given consideration to the limitations on subject distance as your lens focal length approaches you maximum bellows extension.

My long focals for 8x10 are the 600-800 Nikkor combination; if you go with the Nikkor teles, the 600 rear cell is still on fire sale at B&H.

At least one forum member strongly prefers the new Schneider teles to the discontinued long Nikkor T-EDs.

    Hi John,

I checked on BH and the rear lens units are around $200, where would I get the front end unit and how much would those run?

Hey, might as well go all the way and look for a 1200mm Fujinon A. I have heard of one selling in the past 4 years and it went for only $4000.

I would opt for the Fuji 600mm lens for your Wehman camera over the Red Dot Artar in this focal length because of the significant reduction in weight. Expect to pay a bit over $1,000 for a nice one used.

Make sure you have bellows for those dogs. 1200mm A requires 4ft of bellows. Not every camera can accomodate such a length. Focusing is a bit of issue too.

I have 35 inch (819 mm) RD Artar and I'm not using it because all my cameras bellows draw only 30 inches.

Btw, I can sell it to you. If you want.
