Happy accident, but not desired. I'm really trying to make my plates as clean as possible.
Sorry, I know it's big, but it needs to be big. I made a smaller version and all the sense of space and depth goes completely away. Plus, you can't really see the tonality of the trees very well, which was the most striking to me when I walked into the forest. The Beeches looked almost like wet sea lions. With this image I think the bigger, the better. LF images need a bit of real estate.
I tried to edit in a little contrast, but this look, almost as it came out of the scanner, looks the best to me. The low contrast definetely looks more realistic and invites more to look into the depth and discover trees in the distance. It's easy to be too harsh in editing images shot in hazy/foggy conditions. Sometimes there just hardly are any highlights.
