Old lenses can be interesting for their optical affects, or they can just look plain dull -not quite sharp, flat, sort of second-rate feeling. If you want to get wild and crazy, look up the thread on swirly bokeh to learn more about what lenses give great effects (many of them are larger format, but no worries). Ask people on this forum like Jim Galli for advice on what kind of lens will give you what kind of effect.

    Have fun!

I don't know what camera you have, but if it is something other than a press type with limited movements, your lens doesn't have a large enough image circle to make use of your camera adjustments, so I'd suggest not spending money on either it or a similar replacement.

As a student, I imagine your budget is somewhat restricted, but there are relatively inexpensive lenses out there which can help you learn all that your camera can do for you.

Give a call to KEH Camera in Atlanta they may or not be a god choice but they are at least close.

Are you attending Portfolio Center? I was "this" close to leaving my college advertising program and moving to Atlanta...then I got engaged. Oh well, it all turned out OK in the end.

I'll add another vote for either buying a new shutter from someone here or APUG or ebay. Or else sending it to Flutot's. Carol Miller really is fantastic and I've been sending her work for years.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Alan.
