    Ctein on oil mounting

There is a very good article by Ctein on the advantages of oil/fluid mounting in the latest number of PT.

Using mineral oils is a bit messy compared to the use of solvent fluids like Kamy and Prazio, but on the whole this is a good article that clearly supports the idea that fluid mounting can make a big difference in minimizing grain and maximizing micro contrast.

Ctein mentions the ScanScience fluid mounting system, and I am sure that works fine. I personally have experience with Doug Fisher's fluid mounting station and highly recommend it.

No, the article is in the current issue of PT and so far as I know is not on the web.

Is he talking about scanning or mounting in a glass carrier in an enlarger? I just heard that some people are wet mounting (with water) in their enlargers. Sounded curious.

Photo Techniques. Ctein, Barnbaum and Bond write a lot for this magazine.

I wish my Polaroid 45 Ultra had glass carrier...
Very good article though. Perhaps I will borrow V750 somewhere and try it.

You can set up an enlarger for wet mounting but not with water. Use scanner fluid or mineral oil. This was SOP when I worked at Meisel Photochrome years ago making huge cibas (trannies and regular positive prints).

No contrast masking articles by Bond this month? What is the world coming too?
