300mm fuji compact,what about me!!

Hi all , recently started a post called "lens that surprise"with a BTW about a 300 fujinon compact well the question now is any comments about this lens 300f8.5
would be appriciated .And the BTW is that i have that much confidence in the little Fujinon 150 that i mentioned that i have started working a print for 30"x40"production.cheers Gary

Tiny, very sharp, loads of coverage on 8x10, cheap... Doesn't really get much better than that, does it? A lot of folks compare it to the Nikkor 300mm M - the Fuji has a lot more coverage and seems it's equal in every other way.

My nikor 300 M covers 7 x 17...I was doubious but at Fred Newman's suggestion I purchased one and it covers nicely! If the Fugi covers more, it would be an incredible little lens...I also use the fugi 450 C and the fugi 600 C.

I use the Fuji 300C, 450C, and 600C lenses for 8x10. All are outstanding performers, sharp, light, and with excellent coverage.

The one I owned covered 8x10 with about an inch of movement before the aperture started to vignette at f22 - and only slightly better at f32... Like Rick, I use the 300, 450 and 600 Fujis on 8x10 and their performance/price/weight is simply unbeatable.

From prior posts it appears that the specs for the lenses indicate that the Fuji has greater coverage, but in reality (at least for those making contacts) the Nikkor M has more coverage. Also remember that Nikon gave specs at f/16, while Fuji specs are at f/22.

I own the Fuji 300C and agree that it is an outstanding lens for contrast, sharpness, coverage, and weight. Do the 450C and the 600C have the same qualities?

I have the 450C and have used it on 4x5 and whole plate, and a bit of 8x10. It is tiny, sharp, and has plenty of movements for me. I have used it far more for 4x5 than I expected.

Both the Nikkor 300mm Ms I have owned had image circles of around 340mm - no greater. There appear to be some examples around which had a greater image circle. The 300 Fujinon C I now own has a considerably larger image circle than both the Nikkors. OTOH, the 450mm Nikkor Ms I have owned have all had very large image circles (plenty for 12x20).
