    240mm Componon Good for 8" x 10" ?

Schneider's vintage lens data claims the 240mm Componon is good for a maximum film format of 180mm x 240 mm (7.09" x 9.45"). This does not quite cover the image on my Fidelity film holders (7.75" x 9.63"). Does anyone have experience with the 240mm Componon projecting an 8 x 10 negative and is there any noticible fall off in illumination or sharpness at the margins? Thanks.

I have a 240 componon S (quite old) and it has ample coverage. I cannot speak for your componon but as far as I am aware the 240s were made for 10x8 or as yours says 18x24 which is a tiny bit smaller. Remember that at smaller enlargements the lens is further away from the neg. So, to be able to make a fairly big print from 18x24 the lens is much closer and has a much smaller IC. What I am trying to say is that overage becomes more of an issue with bigger prints. Even a 30" inch print is only a 3 x enlargement (linear) so I would bet this lens covers 10x8 amply with problems only arising if you try to do gigantic prints, if at all.
