Lightbulb Wimberley Gimbal Type Tripod Head II

Dear colleagues! I'm choosilng the head for my Nikkor 600mm lens. Anyone who uses it, what do you think about this tripod head? Which is more preferable: usual ballhead or this one?

Irina, you are posting this in the wrong forum - this is about Large Format Cameras. You are better off posting your question at photo.net.

    Irina,

Although you will get far more feedback on one of the other sites, I can highly recommend the Wimberley, I have been using one for about 5 years now for my 600 f/4 and never once had a problem with it, I much prefer it for this type of shooting over any of my ballheads, alot easier to handle the big glass effortlessly.

Dave, there are 3 plates' sizes available:

    Wimberley P10 Quick Release Plate
    Wimberley P20 Quick Release Plate
    Wimberley P40 Quick Release Plate

Which one is the most comfortable with Nikkor 600mm?

Dave, I need to know if it allows 3-side movements! Not only vertical, but horisontal as well?

    Irina,

Yes, it has full side to side movement for panning as well as the pivot to move forward and back, if you take a look at the provided link this company in india has some animated graphics that shows the types of movements.

The Wimberley head is only usable for lenses in a collar. Turning the lens around its axis in the collar gives the 3rd movement Irina asked about. The vertical and the horizontal pivoting is done by the head itself.
