    Newbie - Omega D3 outfit?

I've been offered an extensive Omega D3 outfit for $200 incl. a selection of 13 different-sized carriers, 3 lenses, 3 heads, etc. I think its a pretty good deal.

I'm a complete newbie here when it comes to this kind of thing. Does anybody have some information that can help me even put this beast together, let alone start using the thing. A user manual would be a super thing to have.

I think it is missing the 4x5" carrier, though two are apparently labeled 9x12cm. Are these difficult to come by?

Worse case KHB can supply you a manual.

Normally Omega parts are fairly common. Look around the KHB website and see if the D3 parts fit any other Omega 4x5

    Dear Mike,

Glassless Omega D carriers are easy to come by on ebay. There is one there now listed as a "buy it now." for $16 with shipping.

    Hi, Mike --
Omega D series enlargers are a nice, straight forward piece of equipment. Plenty of parts and accessories around. Most of the early D series stuff is interchangeable. I have an old D-2 that I really like. The list of items you give is pretty impressive and I'd consider it a great deal.

Re: Newbie - Omega D3 outfit?

Thanks for the links. Here is what the $200 kit seems to have:

    Omega D3 enlarger
    Cold Head
VC head, old style with pull chain
    Condenser head with lenses
VHE Vivitars (2.8/50mm and 5.6/80mm) - don't know how good, I also own EL Nikkors in those focal lengths
6.3/135 Fujinar-E (again, never heard of these)
5.6 /135 Schneider Kreuznach Componon (OK this I have heard of...)
5 lens boards - one deep cone, two intermediate cone, one almost flat, one flat
    13 carriers various sizes

Shipping it is probably going to be insane. I might have to arrange a 500 mile drive to get it sometime in the future. (still need to do some darkroom framing, drywalling and plumbing) Good thing I have a van now.

Are there any "gotcha's" with these old D3's? It seems pretty complete - definitely well-used but if its all there then it should be a hell of a nice piece of equipment for me. A little bit of touch up paint, change the cords and it'll probably be good to go.
