    180mm lens for Tech 6x9..

    Hello!
Please, share experience. Wich lens I should bay with 180mm focus leight for my Technika 6x9. I need compact lens for landscape work (f16-32) and sometime portrait (wide open). Maby Schneider Symmar or Tele-Artron (late version with planar scheme 5el/4gr)?

    Have a good day!

It`s all the very cotrast and very-very sharp lenses- not for me. Schneiders from 50-60 of 20 century has low contrast and medium sharp- ideal universal lens for landscape and portrait work.

Shtativ, why do you think that post-WWII Schneider lenses have low contrast and medium sharpness? Which lenses are you thinking of?

And if you don't want high contrast and good sharpness, why did you mention a late Tele-Arton in your first post?

    Good luck, have fun,

    Dan

Hello, Dan! Wow, how many questions for me- I know english not so well
Low contrast and good sharpness- It`s opinion of many people, and I used early single coated Symmar 150/5.6, Super Angulon 65/8, Tele-Artron 240/5.5 and Xenar 105/4.5 and think also. Single coated specifies it.
Why Tele-Artron? I need good sharpness, but not as Nikkor-m, Fuji-a, G-Claron etc. And contrast of Artron not high. Artron 180mm is compact lens, but for 6x9- it means, that it`s optimum aperture is 16. And Symmar 180mm is 5x7 and I think, that it`s optimum aperture is 32. But it`s big...

I use a Tele-Arton 180 with my Graflex 2x3. Comparing it to my other lenses (all 50s era Schneiders - 105 Xenar and 65 Angulon) it has very similar sharpness and contrast. But I am probably not the most critical user. It is also the biggest and heaviest of the three.

Please, help me- I cannot be defined with a choice.

What optimum aperture at Symmar 180/5.6 and at Tele-Artron 180/5.5? My choice will depend on it.

The Symmars I have (150, 180, 210, 240 and 300) all seem to perform equally well over the whole aperture range unless you use a short lens for the format, or use lots of movements. I tend to shoot at either wide-open, f:11, or f:32... F:32 is not the optimum aperture for any lens (it begins to show diffraction), but is useful for depth of field.

I'm not familiar with the Tele-Arton, but I owned a 360mm Tele-Xenar for a while, it definitely needed a bit of stopping down.

Ole, do you do a lot of portraits or landscapes with those Symmars?

Mostly landscapes, most of them on 5x7". The 150mm Symmar is sold, as I had too many 150mm lenses. Since then I have of course aquired six more 150mm lenses...

The 180 and the 240 get used the most, sometimes even converted!
