Turns out Princess Kate is an amateur photographer just like many of us: she ran the photo through Photoshop herself to edit it (per her explanation repeated in the NY Times)! I doubt any of us would release our "digital snaps" without at least a bit of editing. Now if she was restricted to film and a darkroom, I guess the photo would have been more "authentic" unless she is really good at manual retouching.
What looks like an unfortunate Royal mis-step is still all good as at least it keeps Prince Andrew off the front pages for a few days. As you were.
